HP A536 Compact Photo Printer

doesn't support compact flash3

We were disappointed and had to return this printer because it did not accept compact flash. We had used a friends HP printer and thought we were ordering the same thing. The description on the site did not specify which cards were accepted. We were able to upgrade to an A636 which does accept our card but at twice the price. We did not order the second printer through Amazon due to the poor info for the first one. The printer itself is great and produces wonderful prints. The company has said that they will accept a return but we are still waiting to see the credit on our account.More detail ...

HP Deskjet F4280 All-in-One Printer Scanner Copier (CB656A)

Printer HP F42805

We bought two of these to replace two HP PSC 1610's three wks ago - so far so good. The PSC's worked for us for 3-4 yrs and by now they both sounded too tired and ready to die.

Ink cartridges: Buy the "XL" versions stands for extra large I guess. Better price per page and less trips to the store.

Installation: A breeze. For the ones who had problems: FOLLOW THE EXACT DIRECTIONS not what YOU think is the right way :-) BTW if I thought the installation of the PSC 1610 was long...this one is REALLY long. Was it an hour? Or it seems it was.

The HP F4280 is a lot quieter than the PSC 1610 and reasonably fast. Except at the printing start: For some reason after you hit "Print" it takes 3-5 seconds of "Nothing is Happening". Can this silly problem be corrected?? I ended up with some duplicate documents but now I know better.

Save ink and time: Set your default at "Fast Draft" - it makes a very respectable copy at that setting.

Scanning: I think it is a little faster than the PSC 1610 and at the default setting of 200dpi the results are very good. I tried the 600dpi slight difference on the monitor but I'm sure it makes a better printed copy.

OVERALL: A great printer for the price.

HP Photosmart D7560 Printer

Awesome Printer!!5

I love printing photos - but only if they are of excellent quality. This printer makes me smile every time I see the results it gives. I started off using HP Premium Plus photo paper but have discovered that the paper recommended here (Advanced Paper) works just as well as the premium plus is much cheaper uses less ink etc. I've had the printer for about 6 weeks now and cannot count the 8x10's 5x7's and 4x6's I have printed all with excellent results. Just two days ago I replaced the first ink cartridges that came in the printer - now that's economical ink!!

I have printed a few documents etc. and the printer works great there too. Also I have printed CD's with absolutely BEAUTIFUL results. The software with the CD printer is somewhat limited but still offers enough versatality to be entertaining.

I would say this printer is for the photo enthusiast instead of someone that wants to print documents etc. You can easily find a printer to fit those needs but this one is fantastic for photos!!More detail ...

HP Officejet J4580 All In One Printer

Great value at only $1094

I purchased this all-in-one last month and have been very happy with it. I have only purchased HP printers because I find them to be reliable and long lasting. I am computer literate but not a geek. I find the print to be extraordinary even on the "quick/draft" mode. The scanner works much better than my last scanner and the conversion to editable text is in my opinion exceptional. I haven't used the fax because I have disconnected my landline in favor of my cell phone. The help section of the software is clear and concise. The printer is enthusiastic (it really hammers out its assignments) so it is loud and tends to shoot the finished product to the floor if you don't raise the paper catcher. The convenience of having all of these pieces of equipment in one unit with such a small footprint is the organized person's dream.More detail ...

HP OfficeJet J4680 All-in-One Wireless Printer

Having trouble? Perhaps this will help. (BTW: This really is a decent little unit)4

First let me preface by saying that I am not "tied" to any particular brand or model. I've had and/or still have: Epsons Canons HPs and Lexmarks (I tend to shy away from Lexmarks low end units but the higher end units work fine) and they ALL have their good apples and their bad apples. I for the life of me simply cannot label this as a bad apple. And believe me after reading all the negative reviews I tried! It works without flaw on Vista 32 bit Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64 bit RC1(Using the Vista 64 bit drivers). Both via USB and via WiFI with an old Linksys WRT54GL.

/PREFACE OFF

I work out of my SUV and needed a small printer/copier to use while I was on the road. This so happened to be on sale a few weeks ago and was the cheapest AIO with the exception of the Lexmark which I was not willing to purchase so I bought it. I got it home preformed the normal new printer setup ritual contemplated some sort of ceremonial dance due to all the negative reviews and dug in.

---FIRST RULE OF THUMB WHEN INSTALLING ANY NEW HARDWARE: Create a restore point! If anything goes haywire you can just "roll back" to this restore point.

---SECOND RULE OF THUMB: Do NOT use the drivers provided in the box. Ever... Instead download the drivers and/or firmware/system updates and/or patches from HP.

---AND THE FINAL RULE OF THUMB: Unless you love bloatware(God knows HP wants you to...) find the most BASIC and SMALLEST driver set available that still allows full feature operation. When I searched (What a novel idea right?) there were two "junior sized" drivers for this particular unit and both gave summaries as to what they do. The first one was the "HP Officejet Basic print&scan driver" and the second was the "HP Officejet Basic Driver - IT Professional Use Only". Now don't let the "professional use only" scare you. It installs just like the beefier versions with a setup.exe it's just WAY faster to install and WAY smaller. Once installed you have the normal scan and print functions without the hassle.

I have successfully scanned via Windows Scanning & Printing (WIA) and also via Adobe Photoshop CS4 (WIA). I then printed numerous photos and documents on both photo and standard printer paper with not so much as a peep or a jam. Yes I'm serious. And no I'm not even close to being "easy" on it. It sits in my truck all day and night with inside temps reaching a scorching 115 degrees Fahrenheit and has worked every single time I called on it. Trust me I'm as shocked as you.

This brings me to my last point that I'm certain someone is just dying to call me on: "Why should people have to use workarounds? Why can't it just work?". That is a very good question. But it is also a question you will find yourself asking more and more in life as time goes on. This is unfortunately a fact of life. As things get cheaper and cheaper manufacturers have to cut corners to keep up with their competitors and quite simply things get overlooked. It sucks big time and we as customers shouldn't HAVE to use workarounds but if you want a machine that does everything this one does for less than the price of just a basic inkjet a few years ago you're gonna have to make exceptions. It's a necessary evil folks.

In closing might I suggest one thing: Before jumping on the Haterade bandwagon (and this includes mindlessly rating me down for no particular reason other than you couldn't get it to work for you so therefore I must be lying) try to put forth a little effort on your part to rectify the problem. Is a simple Google search or a simple visit to HP.com really THAT difficult? Lord knows you'll spend MUCH more time than that on the phone with the foreign "help desk". Not to mention the time it takes to create such negative reviews.

Now this isn't to say there's been no bad hardware shipped as I'm more than certain there are some who got lemons straight from the factory and even all the research in the world won't rectify that problem. But after reading all the reviews I found that the majority of the issues are either due to user error or fixed in a software driver update that the user never bothered to check for.

If you want jack of all trade items at bargain prices sometimes you have to do a little work.

HP Officejet 7000 Wide Format Printer (C9299A#B1H)

Fairly priced and reliable4

Please be aware before buying this printer that it uses traditional four-color (cyan magenta yellow black (CMYK)) technology. While four-color printing is the standard for offset color printing (i.e.: the process used by commercial printing plants) this printer is not capable of producing the lifelike continuous tones of a six-or-more color printer designed for printing photographs. That doesn't mean it's bad for its intended use--the speedy printing of typical business documents on plain paper or getting output that simulates the four-color offset printing process--but it does mean that shoppers looking for photographic-quality output should look for a different printer better suited to that objective.

On behalf of a family member who works as a commercial artist I wanted a large-format printer to replace a pair of ancient Epsons that constantly clogged. I bought a new large-format Epson (Workforce 1100--see my review) thinking that 15 years of development since my old printers were made would mean Epson had solved the clogging problem. I was mistaken--it clogged almost immediately and took multiple ink-consuming cleaning cycles to clear before it clogged again--so I returned it.

I was somewhat wary of this OfficeJet 7000 since it has gotten some very articulate and feature-specific negative reviews on Amazon. However I took a chance because A. there are very few large-format inkjet printers available and B. those that HP sells specifically for graphics users (DesignJets) hover around the $1000 mark--They may be very good printers but I didn't want to spend that much.

Making sure that the local store I bought my OfficeJet 7000 from had a reasonable return policy I dragged the large box home and began to unpack it. The first thing that surprised me was seeing that it has built-in ethernet--a rare feature among printers in this price range. While I don't need to network the printer at the moment and I don't know how well it works it's nice to know we have that option down the road without buying additional hardware. I connected it via USB (you'll need your own cable) and got to work.

Installation of the printhead and supplied starter inks was fast and easy and the software installed quickly on my Mac (OS X). As I recall the printer then started its own ink priming/calibration routine that took about 15 minutes--a one-time thing unless you want to manually run it again later (I have not had to).

With its print driver set to maximum quality output quality on the 7000 (from Adobe Illustrator on a Mac) is very good--Again for its intended use of printing business documents and graphic designs with solid blocks of color not photos intended for framed art. In general output colors are very bright and close to what I see on the screen--and this is on plain paper--although darker colors (like deep browns) appear just a bit washed out and there is no setting I can find in the print driver to directly fine-tune this density.

Speaking of software the 7000 comes with a decent CD that not only inserts the usual controls for various basic printer settings into the OS-level print dialog (OS X in my case) but includes gadgets that let you run utilities on the printer such as head cleaning and additional calibration cycles (haven't needed it) and track what you've printed and how often you've interacted with the printer for such events as ink cartridge changes. Just keep in mind if you are a user looking for endless print output tweakability this software doesn't have much--It was clearly designed for the simplicity that business users want. The good news as I mentioned above is that I've found its output to be quite color-accurate without a lot of tweaking even if the dark mixed colors suffer a bit (black is fine). However if you really want press-proof quality output check out one of the HP printers designed for the graphic arts.

Like all inkjets the OfficeJet 7000 is built on the model of selling you the printer relatively cheaply then making money for the manufacturer on your future ink purchases. I can accept this reality and the less-than-perfect color calibration (of dark colors) if I know the printer will work reliably and so far this 7000 has been a champ. After years of dealing with the endless clogs (and unreplaceable printheads) of Epson printers I am luxuriating in the sheer joy and novelty of a printer that just uncomplainingly puts ink down on paper without clogging every ten minutes. It's been six weeks and not a single clog. And while I would characterize the 7000's actual printing speed as "pretty fast" compared to my retired Epsons the biggest improvement in overall output speed has come from simply not having to take time out to unclog the old Epsons' finicky heads.

As for reviews that mention paper jams I can only guess that such reviewers got lemons because my 7000 has been jam-free from the beginning even with light cardstock that has to bend around a paper path that starts with the front-load tray. I would have preferred a printer with the option of a straight-through paper path (like the Epson Workforce 1100) for heavier stock but that's a minor quibble when you consider how much more reliable it has been.More detail ...

HP Photosmart B8550 Inkjet Photo Printer

Perfect Printer for the Part-time Pro5

As a long-time photographer and graphic designer I'm pretty familiar with printing in irregular formats. The HP Photosmart B8550 is the second large-format printer I've owned and will be replacing an HP Deskjet 1220C for the majority of my photography printing and graphic design work.

Overview:)

-----------------

The Photosmart B8550 is a large-format printer capable of printing photographs and posters as large as 13" x 19". If you just want to print 4" x 6" weekend snapshots or if you don't understand why someone would want to print something so large this is **NOT** the printer for you. This printer is very very large and is designed primarily for people who want to print very large photographs and digital images.

The Physical Object:)

------------------------

The Photosmart B8550 is surprisingly sleek and sexy-looking for a large-format printer and is significantly smaller and more attractive than the 13x19 printer it will be replacing. The LCD screen is bright and clear and the printer feels solid and well-built.

The printer's included software integrated quickly and seamlessly with my various photo-editing programs. I was very pleasantly surprised both with how attractive the printer is and with how well it works with Photoshop Illustrator Light Room Aperture and iPhoto.

The Prints:)

------------------

The prints from the Photosmart B8550 are nothing short of superb superb. I have printed 3"x5" 4"x6" and 8.5"x11" photographs and have been awed by the quality of the prints I get from this machine. When using the recommended HP Advanced Photo Paper prints of all sizes tested came out bright and clear and were absolutely dry to the touch within seconds of coming out of the printer.

The quality of the prints is so good that friends who I have shown them to have been unable to distinguish them from lab-created prints and two of my friends have had me print enlargements of their wedding photos because they thought the quality of the prints I showed them was BETTER than the prints they got from their professional photographers.

Speaking from experience the people who are complaining about the quality of these prints are DEFINITELY doing something wrong. I don't know if they're using the wrong paper printing on the wrong side of the paper or using the wrong settings but if you use the recommended paper and the correct settings on the printer you will get FABULOUS results.

The Supplies:

--------------------

One of the most surprising things about this printer is how affordable the recommended replacement supplies are.

The paper is surprisingly affordable with 50-packs of 8.5x11 or 100-packs of 4x6 glossy HP Advanced Photo Paper costing roughly $20. Likewise the ink is surprisingly cheap with replacement cartridges being priced at roughly $15 each.

To put this in perspective the ink and paper for the large-format Epson printer at my office costs more than twice as much as the supplies for this printer and the results are markedly inferior.

CONCLUSION:

-----------------------

The HP Photosmart B8550 is without a doubt the finest home printer I have ever owned and is one of the best 13x19 printers I have ever used. In fact this is the best printer under $1000.00 that I have ever used bar none.

The print quality is nothing short of outstanding the wide variety of compatible sizes make this a very versatile printer and the affordable supplies make this printer a joy to use and excellent for hobbyists and photography enthusiasts.

While this may not be the printer for everyone it is an excellent choice for anyone who is interested in printing large photographs and saving a great deal of money by printing enlargements for themselves instead of sending them to a lab.

I have been enthusiastically recommending the HP Photosmart B8550 to all my photographer friends and would suggest this to anyone who has a DSLR camera and wants to try printing big gorgeous pictures of their favorite shots.

This is the most affordable highest quality consumer photo printer I have ever used and I am constantly surprised by the high quality of the results.More detail ...

HP DeskJet F4480 Inkjet All-in-One Printer (CB745A#B1H)

Nirvana5

My highest priority was for an all-in-one that would fit upon my home desktop alongside my computer and monitor. I needed to replace my HP F4180 because of queuing problems with the latest version of one of my photo editors.

By comparison the F4480 is much faster quieter and sleeker. Prints spew out at least 50% faster. The unit is quieter in operation and has the sound of quality. The F4480 is sleeker and shorter.

I can't address this unit's durability except to say that I am a computer hobbyist of over thirty years. For about the last ten years I have chosen HP products exclusively. I am very pleased with HP's online support (chat) system.

As for ink usage I will willingly pay more for the convenience of needing only two cartridges.

Tho I use printers predominantly for printing and copying documents I am delighted with the photo quality of the prints which are sometimes exhibited on the walls of our home.

As for the software I downloaded the driver only version from the HP website. The full HP software on the CD may be helpful to novice users but is an annoyance for folks who don't like all the ads. Better freeware options exist elsewhere online.

Price was not an issue this was simply the best at fulfilling my particular needs. However I am still in awe of the low price.

HP Photosmart Premium All-in-One Printer (CD055A#ABA)

Had to return the first one4

I did a ton of research and finally decided to go with this unit despite no reviews at the time. Installation was a breeze (using Mac OS X) except for one part where it asks you to set up a print queue. After doing so it didn't recognize it after multiple attempts. I finally decided to click past that step and it worked fine anyway.

We printed about a dozen photos over the first three days. On day 4 the printer booted up and slammed the print cartridge hard to the left then came up with a "Carriage Jam" error. The nice thing about the touch screen is that it also visually walks you through pictures of the areas that you need to check for paper jams etc.. Alas after going through every trouble shooting step provided it didn't solve the problem.

We returned it to Amazon (Very hassle free I might add--can't fault them a bit) and decided to try a second one since we did like the features. I was glad to see that Amazon ships you another even before you return the defective one. So far this one is working fine although it's only been a couple of days.

Our last HP was probably 4 years old. I have to say the print speed on this one is amazingly fast by comparison. I'm impressed it can print a 4x6 photo as fast as it does. Copy and scan work well too although I've found I have to initiate scanning from the Mac. Didn't seem to work if I tried to use the touchscreen to scan. I was pleased how easy they make choosing options with scanning. You can scan a document straight to PDF JPEG TIFF Memory Card USB drive OCR...

Overall it does seem as though this printer is very well made. It's also great having a tray for both paper and 4x6 photos. Unlike so many printer reviews it doesn't appear as though this printer is burning through much ink at all.

Although I would definitely recommend it I can't give it 5 stars due to the issues mentioned above.
